Hi, I'm Megan!

Owner & Photographer here at Wild Orchid Boudoir

I'm going to get to know you pretty well by the time you leave the studio so here's a little more about me...

Though I first picked up a camera when I was about 8 years old to run around taking close-ups of flowers, I truly started seriously delving into photography about seven years ago in college. I began my career in sports & adventure photography taking photos of local sports teams and my friends' outdoor adventures. The highlight of my sports photographer "career" was assisting at the 2013 UCI Mountain Biking World Cup in Australia. The first day of the world cup ended up being a four-hour mud crawl down a rainforest mountain to take some (albeit pretty awesome) mountain biking photos. Below is the only surviving photo of me from that day and one of the photos I captured! Don't mind my over-stoked grin.

How did I fall in love with boudoir photography?

In 2020, I leaned into learning more about trauma and mental health, particularly with women, and started a journey of healing from my past. While out on a camping trip with a friend one day, they took a beautiful boudoir-esque photo of me at sunrise which completely changed the way I viewed myself. When I saw it, I realized that I hadn't been truly looking at myself in a long time and I couldn't believe this was my body. It's the body that gives me life and strength. That one photo reconnected me to my body and did more for my mental health than 20 podcasts (at least!).

I knew in that moment that this was something I wanted to give to other women. I was in the middle of a career shift and, with a sudden fire, I abandoned everything to pursue boudoir photography here in Maryland. I'd finally found my calling.

Today, I put my entire self and heart into every boudoir session. I ended up doing my own real boudoir session so I know how intimate (and intimidating) it is. It's why I've crafted this entire experience around your session to create a relaxing space and an amazing day all about you. We're not only capturing timeless photos—we're capturing your confidence and happiness. I feel lucky and incredibly grateful every day that this is my career. Here are a couple of my favorite shots with truly amazing women:

Outside of boudoir...

When I'm not in the studio, I spend most my time climbing and going on adventures with my dog, Mako. I enjoy feeling the earth with my bare feet and drawing creativity from quiet times in nature. Though I grew up on the East Coast, I fell in love with the Southwest desert so one day plan to return to settle down in a slice of desert outside of Moab, Utah with 12 dogs. Feel free to get to know me even better outside of the studio by following my personal Instagram here, @theregoesmegan.
